UK technology and network service company telent Technology Services Ltd announced it has won a six-year contract to supply the communications and IT infrastructure for EDF Energy's Hinkley Point C nuclear plant in Somerset.

Under the agreement, telent will design, install and commission the communications and IT system for the 3.2GW power station, including a dual data centre infrastructure and both wireless and wired communications networks to connect around 150 buildings. The company will also provide a multi-service on-site radio network, which will include integration with the Emergency Services Network, CCTV, Public Address and Voice Alarm and other systems.

“This new contract reflects our successful track record in providing critical communications solutions in a range of diverse and sensitive environments,” said Mark Plato, CEO at telent, which operates in transport, defence, public services and other sectors.

The company will work with other bidders including those supplying small power & lighting, fire & hydrogen detection and physical & electronic security, to ensure seamless overall project delivery.
