India’s 540MWe Tarapur 4 reactor in Maharashtra state was synchronised to the grid on 4 June, having reached criticality on 6 March. The reactor was generating 110MWe and is soon expected to be ramped up to 270MWe.
The largest power unit of any type in the country, the reactor will generate 270MWe for a week after which, if the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) gives clearance, generation will be raised to full power.
