CORYS, an Areva TA and EDF subsidiary has won a contract for the design, manufacture and commissioning of a Full Scope Nuclear Plant Simulator for the EPR reactor in Taishan, China.
How the twin EPR units at Taishan could look
The Full Scope Simulator is designed for training of the plant operators and is scheduled for delivery in July 2012. It will feature a complete replica of the control room including the emulation of the Instrumentation and Control system, the hard panels and high fidelity simulation of all relevant systems of the nuclear plant. CORYS will use its proprietary tools including ALICES and DRAC to support the development of plant and system models.
CORYS is also providing the simulator for EDF’s reactor Flamanville 3 and has developed a verification and validation simulator for the LingAo II nuclear power plant for CNPEC.
The Taishan plant is being built by TSNPC, a joint venture between EDF (30%) and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC). First concrete for Taishan 1 was poured at the end of October and the unit is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013. Construction on the second unit is due to start mid-2010 and to be finished in 2015. China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) is in charge of the engineering in partnership with vendor Areva.
