Areva has asked the German government for financial securities (guarantees) in connection with the delivery of components and engineering work for the construction of the Angra 3 reactor in Brazil, which the Brazilian government decided to complete in 2007.
The amount of the Areva activity is about EUR1.4 billion. The former red-green government had forbidden such guarantees to support the export of nuclear technology, but the new government has not outlawed the practice, although it has plans to. As the guarantee exceeds EUR1 billion, it also has to be agreed by the German Parliament, the Bundestag.
