The Shaw Group Inc. signed an initial contract with State Nuclear Power Engineering Corp. Ltd., a subsidiary of China’s State Nuclear Power Technology Corp. Ltd. (SNPTC), to provide technical support services for additional AP1000 nuclear power plants in China. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
Beginning with two new AP1000 units at the Xianning nuclear power plant project in Hubei province, Shaw will provide technical support services, which include engineering and design management, project controls, quality assurance, construction management and project management, as well as health, safety and environmental management.
“The Xianning nuclear power project is Shaw’s first new contract under our long-term strategic cooperation agreement with SNPTC. We anticipate expanding our scope of work at Xianning over the next few years and also look forward to participating in additional AP1000 nuclear power projects in China as the country advances its considerable commitment to nuclear power,” said Shaw’s chairman, president and chief executive officer J.M. Shaw, along with its consortium team member Westinghouse, currently has a contract with SNPTC and other Chinese organizations to provide engineering, procurement, commissioning and startup, information management system and project management services for four AP1000 nuclear power plants being built in Sanmen, Zhejiang province and in Haiyang, Shandong province.
