Russia’s Mashinostroitelny Zavod, which is part of Rosatom’s nuclear fuel company TVEL, has manufactured 3000 nuclear fuel assemblies for the French vendor AREVA. The milestone was marked in a ceremony on 27 September.
The 3000th fuel assembly will be destined for the Goesgen nuclear power plant in Switzerland.
Collaboration between Mashinostroitelny Zavod and AREVA began in 1994, when it began the qualification process for manufacturing Areva NP type fuel assemblies for pressurized water reactors. In 1996, the Russian company manufactured its first four fuel assemblies for the Obrigheim nuclear plant in Germany.
Today, 10 PWRs and BWRs in Western Europe currently operate on fuel produced by Mashinostroitelny Zavod, Rosatom said.
