Ansaldo’s nuclear division has won a break-through order to supply two replacement steam generators for the Palo Verde nuclear station in Arizona, USA. The two steam generators, each with a power output slightly above 2000 MW thermal, are among the largest in operation, as the Palo Verde plants are two-loop 1300 MWe PWRs. The units will be manufactured at the company’s nuclear components plant in Milan, under licence from ABB-Combustion Engineering. Delivery is set for early 2002.
The contract cover all phases of the project: basic and detailed design; procurement; fabrication; testing; delivery; and finally, supervision to site; installation; and commissioning.
Ansaldo has previously supplied the evaporators sections of the two steam generators for the Kewaunee plant in the US and the pressure boundary and internals for two steam generators for Krsko in Slovenia.
