Plans to establish an organisation to lead national efforts to site and manage a waste disposal repository have been submitted by the Federation of Electric Power Companies (FEPCO) to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for approval. Japanese investor-owned utilities could fund the Nuclear Waste Management Organisation’s operations by including a surcharge to customer’s monthly electricity bills.
