Russia’s atomic energy minister Yevgeni Adamov has been accused by a parliamentary commission of abusing his position to pursue private business deals. the anti-corruption commission of the State Duma has urged that a formal inquiry be opened by the general prosecutor’s office.
The commissioner’s report said that Adamov had received cash payments through a third party from Omeka, a US private company that provides consulting services to the ministry. Adamov is registered as Omeka’s chief executive. the report also questions the legality of a deal between the nuclear technology institute Nikiet and Iran during Adamov’s tenure at Nikiet.
The second reading of the Adamov-backed nuclear waste import bill, due at the end of March, has been postponed.
