It appears that KEPCO, the South Korean utility, has decided that it will not to order any more Candu reactors, and will instead concentrate on developing the PWR.
Kepco is expected to place orders for up to eight new reactors, to be built over the next 15 years. Last year, KEPCO announced that it would order two more 1000MWe PWRs from Combustion Engineering, now part of Westinghouse. At that time, senior officials at KEPCO and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said that a pending decision on more orders would be announced at the end of 2000 to keep capacity additions on schedule.
No announcements have been made.
