Three bidders remain in the DoE competition to build two plants to convert 700,000t of depleted uranium hexafluoride to a more stable form for disposal. The two plants would be built at Paducah and Portsmouth.
DoE said that the following submitted bids were in the department’s “competitive range”:
• American Conversion Services, made up of CH2M Hill and USEC.
• Jacobs Cogema, made up of Jacobs Engineering Group and Cogema.
• Uranium Disposition Services, made up of Framatome ANP, Duratek Federal Services, and Burns & Roe Enterprises.
General Atomics was dropped from the competition, as was Foster Wheeler Environmental Conversion Services, a team of BWXT Services, Foster Wheeler Environmental, and BNFL.
A final contract is expected to be awarded within the next six months.
