Con Edison has to do more to correct communication weaknesses in its emergency preparedness programme at Indian Point 2, according to a report from the US General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress.
GAO said Con Ed has made progress in addressing previously identified problems that surfaced during a February 2000 alert following a steam generator tube rupture. The report said that Entergy, which has since bought the unit, will have to continue the corrective actions currently being implemented when it assumes ownership later this year.
GAO recommended better communication among the NRC, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and counties or local governments that play large roles in radiological emergency preparedness.
