A scientific expedition discovered 237 containers holding solid radioactive waste and the burial site of the nuclear submarine K-27 in the Kara Sea in northern Russia, according to deputy emergencies minister Mikhail Faleyev.

A suspected burial site of the reactor section of K-254 nuclear submarine was also examined near the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Samples of water, sediments and sea fauna taken at the burial sites were tested and indicated that radiation levels were stable and the sunken objects remained airtight.
