The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is consulting on the environmental, health-related and social impacts of a draft master plan for decommissioning 121 nuclear powered submarines and ships off northwest Russia. The EBRD has been staging meetings in Moscow, Murmansk and Severodvinsk. Consultation lasts until September, after which the bank will write a final plan. The master plan has so far been financed by a €150 million budget held by the European Union-led Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership.
