French nuclear technologies company Areva has named Roland Jacquet as deputy vice president of the chemistry business unit, in charge of major projects. Jacquet, 51, is a graduate of the Caen Chemistry University and has been with Cogema since 1980. Until 1993, he held a variety of engineering positions before he joined the operations department of Cogema-Cadarache. Since 2000, he has been director of the Melox plant.
Replacing Jacquet is Patrick Paillere, 48, an electro-chemical and electro-metallurgical engineer, who joined Péchiney in 1982 as a research engineer in the Ugine steel center. In 1989, he joined Cezus as quality manager in the titanium alloy department. In 2002 he was appointed vice president, purchasing, logistics and continuous improvement for Cezus’ five industrial sites. Since 2003, he has been general manager of FBFC.
Jean-François Marrot has been appointed general manager of FBFC to replace Paillere. The 47-year old is a graduate of the Institut Polytechniques de Grenoble and has a postgraduate degree in nuclear engineering. He began his career in 1982 at Technicatome in Saclay, as an onboard reactor design manager. In 1984, he joined Framatome Lyon’s PWR fuel design and sales department, firstly as a design and safety manager for reactor reloads, then manager of the neutron design section for fuel assemblies. In 2004 was appointed vice president of the fuel design and sales department.
Jean-Pol Poncelet has been appointed advisor to the chairman of the executive board. He is also vice president, new energies policy, within the international affairs and marketing department. He holds a physics and civil engineering degree from the Louvain Catholic University in Belgium and began his career researching plutonium fuel at Belgonucléaire in 1974.
From 1991 to 1995, he chaired the Belgian nuclear waste and fissile material agency, Ondraf, before becoming deputy prime minister, minister of defence and minister of energy in the Belgian government between 1995 and 1999. Until August 2005, Poncelet was director of strategy and external relations at the European Space Agency.
The news follows the appointment of former US secretary of energy Spencer Abraham as chairman of the board for Areva. As non-executive chairman, Abraham “will be supporting Areva’s business expansion in North America.” The appointment became effective 1 March.
