A recent survey carried out by Forsa on behalf of the German Federal Environment Ministry finds that a large majority of the German population are in favour of continuing the nuclear phase-out.
According to the Ministry, 73% of Germans consider the risk of an accident at nuclear power plants to be too high and while 53% believe that nuclear power plants are now safer, 18% consider the threat of a Chernobyl-style nuclear disaster to be just as great now as it was 20 years ago. Significantly, 62% of Germans are of the opinion that the pace of the nuclear phase-out should be maintained or accelerated with a further 18% in principle against a phase-out.
