Finland’s Loviisa nuclear power plant will operate for 50 years under plans by owner operators Fortum to extend the operating license until the end of 2030. The company has applied to the Council of State and Ministry of Trade and Industry for a license to continue operating well beyond the current expiry date of the end of 2007.
The plant’s first unit, which started operation in 1977, and the second unit, which started operation in 1980, have undergone several extensive refurbishment projects and additional modernisation projects are underway.
