Fennovoima, a new Finnish nuclear power company that aims to constructing a new 1000-1800MWe nuclear power plant scheduled to start begin operations between 2016 and 2018 has drawn up a shortlist of five sites for its proposed reactor.
By autumn Fennovoima plans to select two to four sites for environmental impact assessment (EIA) from the current list of Kemijärvi, Kristinestad, Pyhäjoki, Simo, and Vaala municipalities, although the company has not ruled out the possibility that there may still be suitable sites in other municipalities.
Fennovoima will file an application for the decision-in-principle for constructing a new nuclear power plant once the EIAs are complete.
