On 12 September, Atomstroyexport and Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC) signed a protocol for preliminary acceptance of Tianwan 2 in China’s Jiangsu province, marking the completion of the contract to supply two VVER-1000 units.
A similar protocol for unit 1 was signed earlier this summer on 4 June. Atomstroyexport said it would maintain the units for the next two years.
The contract for the project to construct two VVER-1000/V-428 units in Lianyungang was signed in 1997. Unit 1 produced first power in May 2006, and achieved full capacity (1055MWe) for the first time on 20 April 2007. Fuel loading at unit 2 began on 16 March 2007 and first criticality achieved on 30 April. Full capacity was on 11 July and the unit had produced its first TWh on 24 August.
Atomenergoproject from St.Petersburg was the general designer of the project; Hydropress Experimental Design Bureau – the designer of the reactor system; Kurchatov Institute – the scientific manager of the project; Izhora Plants and Power Machines – the suppliers of equipment. Over 150 Russian companies and organisations were involved in the construction.
