Veidekke Entreprenad AB, a subsidiary of Veidekke Group, has received a contract from OKG Aktiebolag (OKG) for the construction of a new deep-water intake for cooling water for reactors 1 and 2 at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant.
The value of the contract is around SEK125 million ($16 million). Work will begin in August 2009 and is expected to conclude in April 2011.
The project involves construction of intake caisson at a depth of 25m and an associated 600m long connecting tunnel and connection to the existing system, also a new dam and intake pool.
The purpose is to reduce the temperature of the cooling water from the reactors during the course of the year.
“This will be a truly challenging project to work on. We are very satisfied with our first assignment in this type of construction and we are looking forward to good and close cooperation with OKG AB,” says Per Brinck, regional manager of Veidekke, heavy construction east region.
