Tom Samson is leaving his post as chief operating officer at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation to become chief executive officer of the UK’s new nuclear build developer, NuGeneration. He takes over from interim chief executive Sandy Rupprecht.
Samson a mega-infrastructure development specialist has extensive experience in developing organisational structures, corporate governance, and joint-venture partnership relations. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering studies at Edinburgh’s Napier University in 1990 and began his career in Manchester at GEC Alstom as a design engineer working on CCGT power plants before joining Marubeni Corporation.
In his new role, Samson will continue to drive NuGen, a 60:40 joint venture between Toshiba and ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ), as the company takes forward detailed plans for one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe.
NuGen is planning to build three AP1000 reactors, with a combined capacity of 3.4GW at Moorside, to the north and west of Sellafield in West Cumbria.
The company recently entered a first-stage public consultation as part of its Development Consent Order work, and is consulting with the general public at 22 venues across Cumbria between May and July.
