Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) has awarded an £8 million contract to UK-based Croft Associates for the supply, manufacture, testing and re-licensing of Safkegs radioactive waste packages for use at the Scottish site.

The order, which is due to be completed within the next 12 months, follows a similar order received in late 2014. It also includes ancillary equipment and services relating to the intended transport of Safkegs by DSRL.

Safkegs are standard packages meeting Type B fissile requirements of the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material. Type B packages can be used to transport a variety of material including spent nuclear fuel, and vitrified high-level waste.

Croft has been supplying the packages to the nuclear sector for over 30 years.
