Mashinostroitelny Zavod – a subsidiary of Russian nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL, based in Electrostal – has completed acceptance tests for fuel pellets for the UK’s Sizewell B pressurized water reactor. Representatives of Areva and an expert from Dutch energy consultancy KEMA observed the work, MSZ said. The experts visited fuel pellet production line, checked the documentation, and witnessed analyses in the Plant’s Central Laboratory. In April, EDF Energy inaugurated a new ‘dry store’ for used nuclear fuel that enables continued operation of the plant until at least 2035. Sizewell B accounts for 3% of the UK’s total electricity demand.
