Ukraine’s nuclear utility Energoatom intends to increase its investment programme budget for 2017 to more than UAH14bn ($547m) from UAH6.2bn in 2016, according to the company’s website. About UAH6.3bn will be spent on safety improvements for Energoatom’s reactor fleet, some UAH2bn more than in 2016. According to Energoatom’s financial programme from last year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provided a UAH2bn loan to finance about a half of the UAH4.4bn spent on safety improvements in 2016.In its 2017 investment programme, Energoatom has allocated UAH1.5bn for reactor lifetime extensions and UAH4.3bn for the construction of roads, training centres and other infrastructure projects at its NPPs. In comparison, the figures for 2016 amounted to UAH383m and UAH1.1bn. The financial documents make no mention of the source of financing for 2017.
