The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has returned the USA's Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility to normal oversight following completion of corrective actions to address violations in ledger plate weld quality at the project. The regulator notified CB&I Areva MOX Services on 10 May that corrective actions taken at the construction project at the Department of Energy's Savannah River site had been completed in accordance with NRC requirements. NRC inspectors found that any failure in the welds would not have affected public health and safety as the ledger plates – which support floor panels – were in interior rooms that did not impact the confinement safety function of the facility.
