ClydeUnion Pumps, part of SPX FLOW, has been confirmed as the supplier of 16 safety-related pump packages to EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C EPR project in Somerset, UK.
SPX said it has been chosen to deliver emergency feedwater system (ASG) pumps and component cooling water system (RRI) pumps for the project.
The emergency feedwater system supplies water to the steam generators’ secondary side if all the systems contributing to normal supply of the SGs are unavailable. The component cooling water system is designed to cool and transfer heat load from nuclear island components and systems during the various operating conditions.
The pumps will be manufactured at the ClydeUnion Pumps factory in Annecy, France. ClydeUnion Pumps became part of SPX Corporation in December 2011.
Commenting on the deal, Jose Larios, SPX Flow President, Industrial and Energy said the firm has a “good partnership” with EDF, having supplied equipment to almost all of EDF’s nuclear power plants in France and the UK, including Sizewell B (Suffolk, UK) and the EPR reactor currently under construction at Flamanville 3 (Normandy, France).
