Russia and Saudi Arabia on 14 December signed a roadmap for nuclear energy cooperation, Russian state nuclear company Rosatom said. The roadmap comprises a number of steps needed to implement a cooperation programme and was signed by during Saudi King Salman's visit to Russia in October.
Saudi Arabia, is planning to construct 17.6GWe of nuclear capacity by 2032 and has sent a request for information to international suppliers to build two reactors in the kingdom. The US administration is encouraging Saudi Arabia to cooperate with Westinghouse Electric and other US companies to build nuclear reactors. However, previous US agreements prohibited the enrichment and reprocessing of uranium.
