Czech R&D company ÚJV Řež has signed a major long-term contract in Egypt with the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA). “Under this million-dollar agreement, we will provide technical assistance to the Egyptian supervisory authority in licensing Egypt's first El Dabaa nuclear power plant,” the company said.
Noting that four VVER-1200 Generation III+ units will be built on the Mediterranean coast, about 300 kilometres from Cairo, by Russia, for the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), ÚJV Řež said: “Our services for the state regulator ENRRA will focus mainly on independent control of documents and services supplied by the Russian side and on support activities for Egyptian supervision in a number of other areas (human resources development, development of integrated regulatory management system, inspection plans during NPP construction, international missions, development of legislation, evaluation of license documentation, etc).”
The contract was signed by ÚJV Řež CEO Daniel Jiřička and ENRRA chairman Samy Shaaban Ata-Allah Soliman. Neklan Coufal, Director of Czech Trade in Egypt, also took part in the signing ceremony. ÚJV Řež said it had gained international experience providing technical support for the licensing of new nuclear units as a result of working with the Turkish State Nuclear Regulatory Authority (TAEK) in licensing the Akkuyu.
