Training has begun of operating personnel for units 7&8 of China’s Tianwan NPP in Jiangsu province using a full-scale simulator (PMT – Polnomasshtabnom Trenazhere manufactured by Jet Engineering & Technical Centre (ITC Jet – part of Rosatom’s Electric Power Division) together with Chinese company CTEC.

The necessary software was integrated into simulators of the unit and reserve control centres of unit 7, and tested at CTEC’s manufacturing plant. The simulator was then delivered to the Tianwan NPP Training Centre, installed and tested.

The PMT was put into operation six months ahead of the contract. The construction period was reduced thanks to the parallel development of a mathematical model that simulates all operating modes and software for an automatic process control system. The model was tested on a simulator and identified errors were taken into account in the design of the power unit’s process control system before its commissioning began.

ITC Jet, with more than 30 years of experience, has created over 50 simulators as part of projects around the world, including in countries in Europe and Asia. It includes Jet Lab LLC, an IT company established in 2022 with broad competencies in developing computer software and solving complex.

The simulator is used for training of operating personnel and their certification with the issuance of licences, practicing interaction within a shift, supporting the qualifications of operating personnel of block control panels of a nuclear power plant, verification and validation of emergency instructions, etc. The training is conducted by full-time instructors of the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation, (the operating organisation of the Tianwan NPP).
