Rosatom’s fuel company TVEL and South Africa’s AllWeld Nuclear and Industrial have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of decommissioning and radioactive waste management. The document was signed on the sidelines of the African Energy Week 2024 forum in Cape Town by TVEL’s Director for the Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities and Waste Management, Eduard Nikitin, and the AllWeld Director General Mervin Fisher.
The agreement provides for joint work in scientific, technical and commercial activities with respect to the decommissioning of NPPs and other nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities. Key aspects of cooperation will be the development of infrastructure for the management of radioactive waste, including its processing, storage and disposal, as well as the design and creation of components for the equipment necessary to solve problems in this area in South Africa.
“The signing of the memorandum with South African partners opens up new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects both in South Africa and abroad,” Nikitin noted.
