Yevgeny Adamov, Russia’s former nuclear energy minister currently in detention in Switzerland, has agreed to be extradited to his homeland over fraud allegations, according to reports from Agence France-Presse.

However, until the USA decides whether to drop its own extradition request the move will be kept on hold.

Swiss justice ministry spokesman Folco Galli is quoted as saying that US authorities have been asked if they are ready to drop their extradition request and in its place submit an application for the criminal proceedings to be transferred. If the USA insists on pursuing its own action then the conditions for extradition to the USA will have to be examined.

Adamov has been held in Switzerland since he was arrested at US request on 2 May.
