Amec Foster Wheeler announced today that it has been awarded a four-year decommissioning and research contract by the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
The contract will see Amec Foster Wheeler provide a range of services to support decommissioning, waste management and other work across UK nuclear sites.
It will support site characterisation, engineering design and delivery of the UK geological disposal facility, as well as low-level waste repositories in Cumbria (England) and Dounreay (Scotland), and the research reactor sites at Harwell and Winfrith.
In addition, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide the NDA with decommissioning and radioactive waste management services; engineering design and technical support for decommissioning; safety case management; laboratory and experimental research; and environmental assessment.
The value of the contract has not been disclosed, but Amec said it increases the range of services it currently provides to NDA.

The UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority was established in 2004 and is tasked with overseeing the clean-up and decommissioning of 17 of the UK’s civil public sector nuclear sites across the UK.
