A Shropshire, UK, company is to provide glass-reinforced polyester (GRP) panels to replace a 6000m2 glass roof at the Dungeness nuclear station in Kent.
The glass roof 35m above the turbine hall of the Dungeness B station, owned by British Energy, had been threatened by strong winds. Now Meshlite is replacing the glass with its Starlite GRP panels. Meshlite sales director Martin Beer noted that the Starlite panels were lighter than glass, with excellent temperature resistance. Their safety is enhanced because they do not shatter or splinter on impact. Among other tests, the panels were required to withstand a 1 in 10,000 year storm.
