Areva is working with the Jordanian authorities to develop nuclear power infrastructure in the country. Lead utility in the project is GDF Suez, with Areva as EPC contractor and NSSS supplier of the 1000MWe Atmea reactor design, which has not yet been built. That reactor was proposed because of the small size of the Jordanian grid.

Areva UK CEO Jean-Jacques Gautrot also said that Belgium might also be a natural choice for deployment of the Atmea reactor. “GDF currently operates seven reactors today, and it could consider Atmea,” he said.

He added: “There will be a market for a 500-600MWe reactor too, and we are working on this.”
