Areva NP on 12 January signed a long-term contract with the Spanish utility CNAT, Centrales Nucleares Almaraz-Trillo to provide engineering support and outage maintenance services to the single-unit Trillo NPP until 2024. The contract could be supplemented if the service life of the plant were extended. Areva will also provide chemical services to Almaraz NPP and will provide CNAT with care for Almaraz NPP steam generators.
Nicolas Maes, Vice President of Areva NP’s Installed Base Business Unit said long-term collaboration established with CNAT in the 1980s during construction of Trillo NPP had been extended to include maintenance and projects of plant modernisation as well as fuel supply. “This new long-term contract renews it and we are proud to be given the opportunity to continue to support CNAT Trillo power plant in the safe and reliable operation for another eight years.” Aeva is also developing projects for CNAT’s Almaraz NPP “further strengthening the partnership between our two companies”, he added.
Areva NP has also completed a two-year project to modernise the Trillo reactor’s Aeroball Measurement System (AMS), including engineering services, equipment supply and installation on site. The AMS is a neutron flux mapping system that allows the plant operator to gain a 3D snapshot of the reactor core conditions in any kind of plant operation mode.
