AREVA has signed a contract with the Korean KAERI/DAEWOO consortium to supply fuel elements for the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, currently under construction.

The agreement covers the supply of nuclear fuel for the first reactor core, and for a reload batch, AREVA said. Delivery of the fuel elements is scheduled for the start of 2015.

The contract follows similar agreements for the supply of low-enriched uranium and for the delivery of prototype fuels that were signed in 2011.

"This success confirms the quality of the collaboration between AREVA and its Korean partners in the sector of nuclear fuel for research reactors," commented Benoit Bazire, senior vice president of propulsion and research reactors.

The Jordan Research and Training Reactor, JRTR, will be a 5 MWt facility, used for neutron beam research, neutron irradiation services such as medical radioisotope production, and training of Jordanian engineers and scientists.
