Texas-based AZZ has been awarded a contract to refurbish the main steam isolation valves (MSIVs) and the reactor recirculation cooling system valve at the Laguna Verde nuclear power plant in Mexico.

The work is valued at approximately $15 million. It will begin at unit 1 in August and run until the spring of 2016, AZZ said.

Laguna Verde, located near Veracruz, comprises two 820MW gross boiling water reactors, supplied by General Electric. The reactors are licensed to operate until 2020 and 2025, respectively and life extension work is already underway.
