Comanche Peak nuclear station has resumed operations following a modernisation project by Bechtel Power Corp.

Bechtel replaced four steam generators and a reactor head during a planned outage that lasted 55 days, more than a week less than the previous record for steam generator replacement.

Located about 100 km southwest of Dallas, Texas project involved replacing the steam generators in Unit 1 of the two 1200 MWe unit plant. The four new steam generators and the reactor head were built in Spain.

In order to replace the steam generators, crews had to cut an opening high in the wall of the containment structure enclosing the steam supply system and erect an outside lift system.
