Bechtel began work in October on a $300 million five-year contract to provide restart services for Browns Ferry 1. The company also previously provided engineering and technical services during the restart of Browns Ferry 2 and 3.
Browns Ferry 1 has been in layup since 1985. Restart is expected to take five years and cost up to $1.8 billion. The project was agreed by the board of directors of plant owners Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in May. TVA said the restart will make good business sense and will enable the company to provide reliable power in the Tennessee area.
