Construction of Russia’s BN-800 reactor, the fourth unit of Beloyarsk nuclear power plant (Zarechniy, Sverdlovsk region) will be completed in the first quarter of 2013, Energoatom has reported. The project which will cost RUB58 billion has been allocated RUB19 billion so far.
“We have enlarged our concurrent operations and are carrying out construction and installation activities at one and the same time. This, first of all, concerns the placement of the reactor shell in its vault. As a result, we expect to save as much as one year. But since the financing of the project has been reduced by 16%, the project will mostly likely be finished in the first quarter of 2013. If no more cuts are made, we will meet the schedule,” said Oleg Sarayev deputy director general of Energoatom.
“It may seem that the money has been distributed disproportionately. But, in fact, construction costs [are] cheaper. It will be followed by installation of expensive equipment. So, today, the spending is rather high. In any case, everything is according to the schedule,” Sarayev said.
