Members of the British Nuclear Industry Forum (BNIF) said they see “no technical or economic reason” for the early closure of Kozloduy 3 and 4.
The EU condition to shut down these units by 2006 was among preconditions Bulgaria was forced to accept before accession talks could begin. Existing national energy policy is to keep these units operational until 2010, although both sides agreed to decide on a definitive date by the end of 2002. Bulgaria has already pledged to shut down units 1 and 2 before 2003.
Support from members of the BNIF came during a visit of the plant as part of two days of seminars organised jointly with the Bulgarian Atomic Forum.
