British Energy has launched a redesigned Internet website featuring a three dimensional tour of the Sizewell B Pressurised Water Reactor. Visitors to the website can guide themselves around the site using a mouse. The computer generated images allow for the change in perspective necessary to create convincing 3D images and provide views of the station from a wide variety of angles.

British Energy claim this technology, developed through work on virtual reality, is being used for the first time on a website.

“This innovation underlines our commitment to make all aspects of our business as transparent as possible. It will help to de-mystify complicated issues and process,” said British Energy chief executive Peter Hollins. “Being pledged to a culture of openness is one thing – taking positive action to find new ways of reaching the public and seeking their views is another. I hope that our new website will go some way to fulfilling both ideals.” The British Energy website is at www. british-energy.co.uk
