President Bush has asked Congress for $651 million for the 2006 fiscal year for Yucca Mountain, due to begin in October. The figure is considerably less than in 2004, but around $73 million more than this year.
The DoE has designated around $85 million for transport, including cask designs and a new rail line in Nevada, and a further $427 million for the repository itself.
In a separate move, Bush requested $69 million to begin reviewing the license, to hold hearings and to conduct full-scale testing of a high-level nuclear waste rail shipping container by the NRC.
