L-3 Mapps has secured a contract from the Candu Owners Group (COG) to manufacture a prototype plant computer system.

The company will use the current design of central processing unit (the SSCI-890) and modify it to account for any component obsolescence issues, as well as upgrade some of the other component designs as specified by COG.

The prototype system will reside at L-3 Mapps’ main Montreal facility and will be used to provide support to all participating COG members for a period of up to 30 years.

Participating COG members in the deal are Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power, Hydro-Québec and New Brunswick Power Nuclear, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Nucleoelectrica Argentina and Romania’s Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica.
