Centrus Energy and the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will continue to work together to advance US AC100 gas centrifuge enrichment technology, under a new $16 million contract.

Centrus has been working under contract with ORNL since 2014. The latest agreement with UT-Battelle, the operator of ORNL, runs until 30 September 2018. It will see Centrus' experts testing improvements developed for the AC100 centrifuge machine in specialised facilities in Oak Ridge. Payments will be made upon completion of certain milestones, Centrus said.

The aim of the project is to "continue improving the technology to further reduce costs and increase efficiency," of the AC100 machines, according to Daniel Poneman, Centrus president and chief executive officer.

Centrus is the only uranium enricher with US-origin technology. technology, which is being developed to support national security and energy security needs.
