The main advantages of the new Building Information Modelling (BIM) system include better data security and reliability, faster access to information or the possibility of immediate information sharing, said ČEZ.

Specialists from Elektrárna Dukovany II (EDU-II), the subsidiary set up to build Dukovany 5, will use the method to prepare the construction of the building, which will serve background for investors. "It is a method that we want to use in the construction of a new unit. It is possible that the project will be prepared using other software, but the principles will be the same. We want the EDU 5 project to be fully digital. And we want to try it in the preparation of this building ", said EDU-II CEO Petr Závodský.

Instead of dozens of files with drawings and technical reports, the specialists will have all the necessary information in one information database.

"The user no longer has to compare the technical report with the drawing in different versions, which often takes several hours. This comparison is performed by software tools and the results are available immediately. In other words, you can quickly find out, for example, which rooms have air conditioning or what the required level of lighting is in the given workplace”, explained Viktor Černý, director of the Dukovany II Power Plant.

Use of the method was preceded by training from the designer. "Designers are not used to creating BIM models that can be used for project management. We, in turn, have learned to check the information in the models. We are still at the beginning, but there are already obvious advantages of digitisation, which we want to further develop and thus prepare a quality basis for digital project management of the new unit," Černý added.
