Essential works to strengthen the Chernobyl Sarcophagus have begun. Fitters from the Kiev based Urkenerhomontazh company have begun working on the most unreliable sections, including the welding joints in the support structures and damaged beams which support the roof. The first stage should be completed in the middle of December.
