The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and the China Huadian have signed a framework agreement on the cooperative development of the Huian nuclear power project planned for the southeast of Fujian province, according to a statement from the CNNC.

CNNC will hold the majority of the stock in the project, which is listed in the national nuclear power development plan, and will be responsible for building and operating the facility. China Huadian will be the minority stockholder and will work in management. The cooperation agreement marks the formal launch of the project.

The Huian plant will be located at the north shore of Quanzhou Bay near the city of Huian, Fujian Province, and may see up to six 1000MWe power units installed.

Commercial terms of the venture or possible time scales were not revealed, however, according to its Eleventh Five-Year Plan, China plans to build at least one major nuclear power plant each year in the next 15 years. The purported goal is to triple nuclear generation by 2020.
