Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with China Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation (CNPEC) to provide six Rod Control Systems (RCS) and eight Neutron Instrumentation Systems (NIS). These systems will operate with the new Chinese designed CPR1000 nuclear power plants and will be manufactured in the Rolls-Royce facility in Meylan, France.
This agreement strengthens the company’s position in China, building upon previous contracts to supply RCS and NIS for ten nuclear power plants located at Hongyanhe, Ningde, Yangjiang, Fangjiashan and Fuqing. Rolls-Royce intends to develop a local presence to support its Chinese customers in the further development of their nuclear power infrastructure.
In separate announcements, two other suppliers recently announced large contract wins with Chinese nuclear developers.
Flowserve Corp announced ‘multimillion-dollar’ orders from CNPEC and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corp. (CNEIC) for main steam isolation valves (MSIVs). The Flowserve Edward MSIVs are planned to be used at the CPR-1000 design Fuqing Units 3 and 4, and Tianwan Units 5 and 6. All four units are currently under construction and scheduled to be operational in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Flowserve booked the orders in the third quarter of 2010. Valves included in the order will be manufactured at the Flowserve facility in Raleigh, N.C.
Onet Technologies, in partnership with Bertin Technologies has won a contract for the design of part of the sump strainers for the Safety Injection and Containment Spray systems of 4 Chinese CPR 1000 type nuclear power plants at Fuqing and Fangjiashan. The project, for China Nuclear Engineering Corporation Limited, will also include the design of the tooling equipment for the site work, training of the site technicians as well as assistance during the on-site installation phase.
