The 180t dome of the unit 5 reactor building at China’s Hongyanhe NPP in Liaoning province was installed on 12 April,  according to operator China General Nuclear Corporation (CGN).

Construction of Hongyanhe 5, a Generation III ACPR-1000, began in March 2015. Six units are planned for the Hongyanhe site. The first phase has four units. Unit 1 began commercial operation in June 2013, unit 2 in May 2014, unit 3 in August 2015 and unit 4 in September 2016. China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company Limited (CNI23) said this marked the end of the civil  phase of construction.

It is the first of two 1080MWe CGN-designed ACPR-1000 reactors that will form the second phase of the Hongyanhe plant. Unit 5 is scheduled to start operations in November 2019. Unit 6 began construction in July 2015 and  is expected to start up in August 2020.

The Hongyanhe NPP is owned and operated by Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Co, a joint venture between CGN and State Power Investment Corporation, each holding a 45% stake, with the Dalian Municipal Construction Investment Co holding the remaining 10%.
